COACHING

Sometimes you just want personalized attention. Whatever you’re looking for —improvement in your technique, growth in your mental game, how to do a proper deadlift — we’re here for you.

Milo Forbes

Milo Forbes has been an avid climber for the last seven years, stepping into the world of coaching soon after falling in love with his original home gym in the Bay Area, Planet Granite. After moving to the Seattle area to get his Bachelor of Science in Physiology from the University of Washington, he spent every minute of his free time climbing in the local gyms and in his favorite outdoor spots, Gold Bar and Leavenworth.

Milo takes a critical and analytical approach to coaching, and believes that instilling a passion for problem solving and critical thinking in all climbers can help them achieve their climbing goals. Milo invests in climbers on a personal level — learning their individual strengths, weaknesses, and aspirations — in order to set them up for success. He strives to ensure that his climbers not only learn more about the movement of the sport, but about who they are.

Andrew Hou

Andrew Hou has been teaching people how to rock climb for over 10 years, and centers his coaching around a love for movement and the outdoors. Andrew works with climbers using a holistic approach, incorporating not just excellent climbing technique but also ensuring climbers are mentally prepared to perform at their highest capability. His biggest mission in coaching is to make sure his clients love trying hard, no matter what level they’re at.

Andrew started climbing in 2007, where he originally focused on mountaineering before he got tired of long walks up and down big hills. He quickly switched to rock climbing, where there’s typically a better hiking-to-climbing ratio. Andrew now focuses on finding cool holds to do cool moves, and while moving over rock of all types. He has a special spot in his heart for the World Wall ledge at Little Si.

We’re also excited to have partnered with Dr. Anna Chang, DPT, CPT at Onsight Physical Therapy for monthly training opportunities at Uplift.

Onsight PT

Dr. Anna Chang, DPT, CPT received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Puget Sound in 2020 and has been climbing since 2017. It was during school where she learned to break down the body mechanics of climbing and provide targeted strength training for people from all physical backgrounds. She then earned her certification in personal training because she wanted to focus on functional movement—addressing the climbing from a holistic view while working on strengths and weaknesses.

Anna will be at Uplift twice a month for regular training opportunities, and can otherwise be found at her space in Tacoma. She’ll be climbing wherever there’s sunshine on the weekends. Anna loves all kinds of climbing and believes in making the sport accessible to all.
